Pediatric hematopathologist

The Division of Pediatric Pathology at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW), within the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), is seeking a full-time pediatric hematopathologist.  The successful candidate should hold an MD/DO degree, qualify for an unrestricted Wisconsin medical license, and be board-certified or –eligible in hematopathology. This position includes a full-time faculty appointment in the Department of Pathology at MCW at a rank and salary commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will find themselves in an enriching environment with myriad clinical and research opportunities spanning the whole spectrum of academic hematopathology. Clinical responsibilities will include service work in both pediatric (~80% at CHW) and adult hematopathology (~20% at Froedtert Hospital) with shared call responsibilities. Administrative responsibilities include directing the CHW Hematology, Coagulation, and Flow Cytometry Laboratories. Academic responsibilities will include teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows and participation in clinical, translational, or basic science research.

The candidate will primarily be based at CHW, located in Milwaukee, WI, which is a nationally recognized and ranked 297 bed pediatric hospital serving as the only free standing pediatric children’s hospital in the state of Wisconsin. The pediatric hematology/oncology program sees approximately 60-70 new leukemia patients each year as well as 40-50 new solid tumor diagnoses and robustly enrolls patients in Children’s Oncology Group and other clinical trials. CHW is designated as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons and has active heart, liver, and kidney transplant programs. CHW is also only the third pediatric hospital in the country designated as a “Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence.”

The Division of Pediatric Pathology offers services in anatomic pathology, hematology, flow cytometry, molecular testing, clinical chemistry, and microbiology. It offers subspecialty expertise in hematopathology, cytopathology, dermatopathology, pediatric solid tumor pathology, vascular malformations, and perinatal/placental pathology. The division has an ACGME-accredited pediatric pathology fellowship program, and AP/CP residents routinely rotate on service. It annually handles over 7,000 surgical pathology & cytopathology specimens, 150 bone marrow specimens, and 60 autopsies. The CHW Laboratory performs over 900,000 tests each year including specialized coagulation testing and rapid thromboelastography.
